Dermatology FAQ

We understand that skin concerns can feel urgent, confusing, or simply long overdue for proper attention. This FAQ is designed to give you a clear understanding of what to expect when you visit us for dermatology care — from routine skin checks to the treatment of chronic conditions and in-clinic procedures.

Whether you've noticed something new, been managing a skin condition for years, or simply want the peace of mind that comes with a thorough skin check, this information will help you feel informed and prepared before your appointment.

If you have additional questions after reading through these FAQs, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Do I need a referral to see the doctor for a skin concern?

No referral is needed. You can book directly with us for any skin concern, whether it's a routine skin check, an ongoing condition, or something new you'd like assessed.

2

What does a comprehensive skin check involve?

Your doctor will examine your skin from head to toe, using dermoscopy — a specialised magnifying tool — to assess moles, lesions, and any areas of concern in detail. It's thorough, unhurried, and a genuinely worthwhile investment in your long-term health.

3

How do I know if a mole or lesion needs attention?

As a general guide, look for changes in size, shape, colour, or texture, or anything that bleeds, itches, or simply doesn't feel right. When in doubt, have it checked — early detection makes an enormous difference in outcomes.

4

What is a diagnostic biopsy and will it hurt?

A biopsy involves removing a small sample of skin tissue for laboratory analysis, to confirm or rule out a diagnosis. It's performed under local anaesthetic, so discomfort is minimal. Results typically take one to two weeks.

5

Can you remove skin lesions in-clinic?

Yes. We perform surgical excisions of both benign lesions — such as cysts, lipomas, and harmless moles — and malignant lesions, including skin cancers, right here at the clinic. This means faster care without the wait of a specialist referral for many cases.

6

Do you treat ongoing skin conditions like acne, eczema, or rosacea?

Absolutely. Chronic skin conditions are very much within our scope, and we approach them integratively — looking at triggers, lifestyle, nutrition, and gut health alongside topical and medical treatments, rather than simply managing flare-ups.

7

How does regenerative medicine fit into skin care?

Where clinically appropriate, therapies such as high potency laser (photobiomodulation) and PRP can support skin repair, reduce inflammation, and stimulate natural regeneration — particularly useful for scarring, skin ageing, and conditions that haven't responded well to conventional treatments alone.

8

Can you recommend natural skincare to use alongside my treatment?

Yes — and we're rather well placed to do so. Our sister studio, Atelier Cosmetics Design, is a boutique natural cosmetics laboratory located right above the clinic. For patients who want genuinely natural, thoughtfully formulated skincare to complement their treatment plan, bespoke formulations and routine guidance are available. Ask us at your appointment.
